“& and /“
We use the word “and” like it’s going out of style. Therefore, it seems reasonable to look towards replacing the three letter “and” with one character that means the exact same thing: “&” (ampersand). So, if you are seeking to minimize room this works wonders. If you’re not crammed from room, it might be more elegant to leave “and” spelled out- but that’s up to you. Getting in the habit of always replacing it may assist you in mastering these tips.
The other trick akin to this is using the / key to combine elements that normally would be separated by “and”. Rather than waste space streaming concepts together with “and”, we can properly cram them together with a /, while maintaining readability (as you should cram things together using “&”).
Let’s examine some samples:
As you can see, this sentence runs on and on and on and on with “ands”. It’s awkward to read anyways, but also wasting tons of space. Because of the waste, we’re -17 over the limit. Let’s use our trick here to fix the situation.
Look at that! Using our “/” to eliminate all of those useless “and”s, as well as using “&” when a lone and pops up, along with our already studied tips, we’ve gone from -17 to 40 characters remaining. See how easy this is- all while making your Tweets vastly easier to read and understand!
Tip 7 is much like tip 6- yet just as useful…
